Think you know your Irish history? Well, if you haven't heard of John Morrissey, it's time to brush up! But don't worry, we've got you covered. The H.A.R.P. Museum at the Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley is thrilled to present "The Extraordinary John Morrissey Exhibit" throughout April.
Who Was John Morrissey?
Born to humble beginnings in Troy, NY, John Morrissey left school at just 10 years old to help support his family. But from deckhand to bare-knuckle boxer to barroom bouncer, Morrissey’s rise was nothing short of legendary. Not only did he dominate the ring, but he also founded the iconic Saratoga Race Track and served in both the U.S. Congress and the New York State Senate. And he did it all before his untimely death at just 47.
Lunch & Learn with Brien Bouyea
For an even deeper dive, join us on Wednesday, April 16, at 11:00 AM for a special Lunch & Learn presentation. Our featured speaker, Brien Bouyea - the Hall of Fame and Communications Director of the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs - will share captivating stories from Morrissey’s life. Bouyea is the author of the acclaimed book, "Bare Knuckles & Saratoga Racing: The Remarkable Life of John Morrissey." After the talk, there will be a Q&A session and an opportunity to get your book signed.
Accessibility
The museum is fully wheelchair accessible, and we welcome everyone to attend. Whether you're a history buff, a racing fan, or just curious about one of Ireland's most fascinating figures, this is an event you won't want to miss!
