The H.A.R.P. Museum continues its popular “Lunch and Learn” series on Wednesday, May 14th, as museum director Alex Sisti presents “On This Hallowed Ground;” tracing the history of the property that is now home to the Irish Cultural Center.
There’s history right under our feet!
Many Uticans fondly recall the site as being the location of St. Patrick’s Church, which was built in 1851 and continued to serve local parishioners for the next 115 years. For others, all they’d ever known was the vacant lot that stood for nearly 40 years until it was purchased for the purpose of constructing an Irish cultural center.
But very few know the full ownership history of the property; that since the 1700s, ownership has passed through the hands of a king, a colonial governor, a Revolutionary War general and a disgraced Congressman.
Feed your mind… and then your belly
All this and more will be recounted, starting at 11 AM in the Gallery -- the Museum’s presentation space on the second floor of the Center -- followed by a delicious lunch from the Five Points Pub. Your $20 registration fee will cover both the program and your lunch (tax and gratuity are included).
