The Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley resumes its Irish Film Series this fall on Wednesday September 24th at 7 PM, with a showing of "The Troubles: A Dublin Story."
Based on a True Story
Although the Troubles are rightly associated with Northern Ireland, their effects were felt around the entire island. In this movie, two Dublin brothers - idealistic Francis (Adam Redmond) and unhinged Sean (Ray Malone) - angry over the treatment of Catholics in the North, join with the local cell of the Provisional Irish Republic Army. Over the course of the next few years, both men experience the dangers and hypocrisy of their situation, as the PIRA turns to criminality and their personal lives fall apart.
Commentary on the film, which is based on a true story, will be provided prior to the film by Jeffrey A. Miller, PhD. Utica University Professor of Communication and Media.
“Let’s All Go to the Lobby!”
A great movie, historical perspectives, savory popcorn, and the best part? The movie is free to watch! Just make sure to register ahead of time - you can sign up by registering at http://bit.ly/3UCRuJd, or by sending an email to info@iccmv.org or by leaving a message at (315) 733-4228 Ext. 6.
This film will be shown in the H.A.R.P. Museum on the second floor of the Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley, 623 Columbia St, Utica. Oh, and the venue is wheelchair accessible, so everyone can join in.
