The H.A.R.P. Museum at the Irish Cultural Center continues its popular Lunch and Learn series on Wednesday, November 12th at 11 AM, with a lecture on one of Utica’s pioneer Irish citizens, Nicholas Devereux.
Most Uticans with a historical bent are familiar with the name “Devereux,” recalling the city’s most revered Irish citizen, John C. Devereux. The subject of a previous Lunch and Learn presentation, he was also recently memorialized for his many contributions to the city and the Irish community with a historical New York State marker placed in front of the Irish Cultural Center. But only the most ardent students of Utica’s history are aware of the remarkable achievements of his youngest brother, Nicholas Devereux.
On Wednesday November 12, 2025, Alex Sisti, director of the H.A.R.P. Museum, will be giving a biographical presentation on the enduring legacy of Nicholas Devereux, beginning with a brief sketch of his French and Irish forebears and immediate family, up to his arrival in Utica in 1806 and his many accomplishments in the years that followed.
A $20 registration fee will cover the program and lunch (tax and gratuity are included). All those interested in attending are asked to register at https://bit.ly/43ifgi5 or leave a message at (315) 733-4228, Ext 6.
