The H.A.R.P. Museum at the Irish Cultural Center continues its popular Lunch and Learn series on Wednesday, May 13th at 11 AM, with a talk on "The Caribbean Irish," presented by local researcher Patty Foley.
The Caribbean Irish; sounds like a contradiction…
It does. And yet, the populations of many of the Caribbean islands boast a high percentage of Irish ancestry. This talk explores the little-known fact that the Irish were amongst the earliest settlers in the Caribbean. They became colonizers, planters and merchants living in the British West Indies between 1620 and 1800, but the majority of them arrived as indentured servants.
Come learn more about the Irish connection between two vastly different Emerald Isles, and hear the arguments about whether those first Irish were indentured servants or slaves, and consider the question ‘exactly what make someone Irish?’ It promises to be a lively and thought-provoking presentation, followed by a delicious Five Points Pub lunch.
Wait… a “delicious Five Points Pub Lunch”? Tell me more!
That’s right; a $20 registration fee will cover the program and lunch; meal tax and gratuity are included. Please register at https://bit.ly/4vjCnFq, or leave a message at 315-733-4228, Ext 6.
Sounds Great… What else do I need to know?
