The H.A.R.P. Museum at the Irish Cultural Center continues its popular Lunch and Learn series on Wednesday, June 10th at 11 AM, with a talk on "Deciphering Irish Place Names," presented by Irish language aficionado, Mike Hoke.
Sing it with me: “I left my heart… in Muckanaghederdauhaulia”
Ireland is famous for its quirky place names, many of which are English mistranslations of the original Irish (Gaelic) names. Ranging from hilarious innuendos to literal descriptions, these spots are scattered across the country. Some make perfect sense while others may just leave you scratching your head.
Presenter Mike Hoke will be your virtual tour guide, leading you through some of the most well-known destinations like Dublin (in Irish, Baile Átha Cliath) and Derry, as well as to lesser-known spots like Horse and Jockey and Ballyjamesduff. And as a fitting finish to your day trip, you’ll be treated to a delicious Five Points Pub lunch!
Wait… a “delicious Five Points Pub Lunch”? Tell me more!
That’s right; a $20 registration fee will cover the program and lunch; meal tax and gratuity are included. Please register at https://bit.ly/4eD9VbO, or leave a message at 315-733-4228, Ext 6.
Sounds Great… What else do I need to know?
