ENCORE! ENCORE!
Back by popular demand at The H.A.R.P. Museum at the Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley on Wednesday November 15, at 6:00 PM are two very special Irish films “An Cailín Ciúin - The Quiet Girl” and “An Irish Goodbye”.
"An Cailín Ciúin" is the story of a shy and withdrawn young girl, Cáit, who spends the summer of 1981 away from her dysfunctional family to live with distant relatives in rural Ireland. Largely ignored by her own family, Cáit, finds much needed kindness with her foster family. "An Cailín Ciúin" was nominated Best International Feature Film at the 2023 Academy Awards. It was also an award winner at the IFTA Film & Drama Awards, the Dublin International Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival. The film is in the Irish language with English subtitles and is 94 minutes long.
“An Irish Goodbye” is a short, 23-minute, film set in a small village Co. Tyrone. It is billed as a comedic story of two brothers, Turlough and Lorcan, reunited by the death of their mother. Against Turlough’s better judgment, Lorcan wishes to remain at the family farm and carry out a bucket-list of his mother’s last wishes. The film won a 2023 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.
The event is being made possible with the cooperation of Culture Ireland, the Irish Film Institute, and the Arts Council of Ireland. It is being offered for viewing at only 40 Irish Cultural Centers in the U.S., including the Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley in Utica.
The event will be held at the Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley, 623 Columbia St, Utica, NY. The Irish Cultural Center and the H.A.R.P. Museum are wheelchair accessible and open to all.
