EVENT: Irish Flag Disposal Ceremony
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 7:00pm
LOCATION: On the patio of the Five Points Pub in the Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley 623 Columbia Street Utica
ABOUT: With respect and dignity, we will dispose of our worn Irish County flags as well as any tri-color Irish National Flags.
REGISTER: The program is free to attend, please register at this link https://bit.ly/3Q5Hc2b and let us know if you are bringing any flags for disposal. You can also visit our events calendar at http://www.iccmv.org/my-calendar/ or leave a message at 315-733-4228 ext.6.
There are no defined constructs for the disposal of Irish County flags, however, the Government of Ireland requires for the tricolor National flag - “ When the National Flag has become worn or frayed it is no longer fit for display, and should not be used in any manner implying disrespect. It should be destroyed or disposed of in a dignified way.” With this in mind we will dispose of our worn flags by incineration in the same manner that we would our own American flag.
Prior to disposing of each flag, we will read a brief highlight of its County. The public is invited to attend and bring any worn Irish National or County flag for disposal.
